What can cause your kitchen cabinet painting project to flop?
November 30, 2021The holiday interior painting checklist
December 10, 2021It’s officially the holiday season!
If you want to give your home a quick touch-up, add exterior painting and quick maintenance checks to your home renovation ideas and keep your residence festive, pleasant and inviting as we end another big year 🙂
Given that we’re less than a month away from 2022, it’s definitely a good idea to get to work on all those tiny details that will improve your curb appeal and protect your most important asset as you enter a new year.
Because getting started can be overwhelming, I’ve compiled a quick checklist that you can use to get that head start you need to enjoy a fresh and cozy home during the winter and all the celebrations to come!
Inspect parts of your home for weather damage
Parts of your house that are left exposed and bare to the elements are prone to the effects of weather damage. If not taken care of immediately, these can result in costly, extensive damages as the months pass by.
That’s precisely why repainting and making repairs should be your number-one priority this holiday season!
Peeling or chipped paint specifically makes your house susceptible to moisture build-up and rust, all of which will cost a pretty penny to fix. If you want to reduce your costs further and keep your home looking fresh throughout the seasons, take a more proactive approach to your maintenance checkups in the coming year.
Check for stucco repairs
Did you know that your stucco is constantly under attack? Whether it’s harmful UV rays, heavy showers or the target of critters and nestling birds, it doesn’t take too long before cracks start to show and affect the overall value of your property.
If you’re noticing particularly large cracks, it’s not a bad idea to get an expert opinion on what could be the issue and get to fixing those before 2022 comes around.
What’s more, stucco left in good condition will help you achieve a smoother paint finish and make sure your paint lasts longer as well😁
Look for rotted wood
A helpful reminder to keep in mind when you’re trying to repaint your place is that any wood that looks dodgy should be inspected and replaced!
Wood usually rots due to the build-up of moisture and is not something you should ignore. While certain people don’t mind painting over the rotted wood to cover up the decay, it could lead to several issues down the line.
Just remember that rotting wood is usually indicative of serious interior issues. Anyone worth their salt will tell you to replace your wood before painting it. Painting over it is like sweeping dirt under a rug!
Schedule a pressure washing before your exterior painting project
Don’t do yourself a disservice by skipping this step before you paint your walls.
A pressure washer is the best tool to use to clear off all the gunk, grime and slide on your walls and leave it spick and span before you start applying your coats of paint. While it does look like a squirt gun, it will blast off loose paint, gouge wood siding, and knock stubborn mortar from between bricks!
If this will be the first time you’re using a pressure washer, something I’d recommend is to practice handling the washer in a low area first because it requires less effort.
If you’re still unsure of the best way to use it or don’t want to invest in a pressure washer, look for the support of expert service professionals or even your neighborhood exterior painting team!
Prepare your home for the festivities ahead with simple maintenance practices!
