How to add a twist to your next home painting project

All of us dream of creating a home that reflects our personality and style, don’t we?

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to build the home of their wildest fantasies. In my experience, though, that doesn’t mean you can’t make your home a place you’re proud of and love to spend time in!

All you really need? The right painting techniques.

While there’s so much choice when it comes to painting your home, most people stick to the same old colors. We’re so afraid of experimenting, even when we know that making different choices will give us a whole new home!

Classic colors and techniques are ageless and classy, sure, but they may not reflect who you are.

Experimenting with colors, patterns, and textures can make your home look modern and make it stand out from the row of white or grey residences on your street.

Paint your wall in more than one color

Most people usually paint all the walls of a room the same color. Sure, this is a safe choice, but it can make your room very monotonous when you look at your walls, day after day.

Using more than one color, on the other hand, can add style and even a personality to each of your rooms.

If you want to go for a minimalist, yet unique feel, try adding a bright horizontal racing stripe across your walls to give it a bold and modern look.

Painting your door frames and window frames in contrasting colors is another, more subtle way of achieving the same effect.

If you are more adventurous and experimental, try painting one wall in a different color to the others, making it an accent wall of sorts. That said, be mindful when you’re selecting this particular color! Always choose one that contrasts with the main color, so it pops out.

Try patterns and murals for a more signature style

Adding patterns and murals to your walls is a great way to add some artistic flair to your rooms, especially if you want to make a statement!

The easiest way to paint patterns is by using a pattern roller, which is similar to normal rollers but has patterns etched on it. Another easy technique is to use painter’s tape. Add a pattern to it and paint over the tape. Once you peel off the tape, you’re left with beautiful geometric shapes!

Stencils are another great way to add patterns to your wall. The advantage of these is that you can add almost any pattern using this method. Your imagination is the limit.

If you are a little more artistic, you can go one step further and add murals inside your home. Personally, I’m a huge fan of these because, when done well, they really tell a story about your home and who you are!

Experiment with textures for a unique look and feel

Let me be the first one to say that adding textures to your walls is one of the more difficult skills when it comes to wall painting. If done well, though, they give your home a very stylistic look and feel.

To get your accent walls perfect, try textured paint, which will give them a more uniform texture. You can also use sponges, wet clothes, and rollers to add texture to your paint. While a little more laborious, trust me when I say the results are always worth it!
